Investigator Matt Whiteford began his railroad career in 1984 on the former Santa Fe Railroad, now BNSF. He worked in many positions including Trackman, Truck Driver, Welder Helper, Welder, Safety Assistant, Tie Inspector, and Rules Examiner. His 25 years of service in 14 different states gave him a well rounded understanding of the industry as a whole, Maintenance Of Way in particular.
“During my career, I saw first hand the dedication and hard work railroad employees exhibit on a daily basis. I know the toll the long hours, travel and general unforgivingness of the industry first hand. I look at this position with Blunt Slocomb as an opportunity to use my experience to help employees unfortunate enough to be injured or unfairly treated by carriers. It keeps me close to both the industry, and the BMWED.”
In addition to being a Life Member of the BMWED, Matt also belongs to the National Association Of Retired And Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE). Other memberships include Pheasants Forever, Quail Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society.
Matt’s wife, Patsy, is completing her career as educator of 30 years. She taught International Baccalaureate English at Hutchinson (Kansas) High School, where they make their home. Together, they enjoy sporting events, movies, and have a true passion for travel, attending live music performances and visiting their eleven grandchildren.
